TCHAIKOVSKY PASSION
Saturday, March 22 at 7:30 PM
Sunday, March 23 at 4:00 PM
California Symphony’s March concerts, conducted by Artistic and Music Director Donato Cabrera, feature music that is full of emotion and high drama. The concerts begin with the world premiere of a new work by Saad Haddad, whose music delves into the relationship between the West and the East. Pianist David Fung performs Grażyna Bacewicz’s Piano Concerto, which incorporates Polish folk themes and features a demanding solo piano part. Tchaikovsky’s final symphony is also known as the “Pathétique,” but the composer originally called it the “Passionate.” Grand, sweeping, and with themes recognizable from movies and pop culture, it is one of the Russian melody master’s most popular works.
