ALEX GROTH
Redwood Symphony Board member, trumpet player, ACSO supporter
ACSO is delighted to highlight Alex Groth, who plays trumpet and sits on the Redwood Symphony Board. This interview was conducted by Alessandra Aquilanti, ACSO Board member and Development Director at Music@Menlo.
What is your background in the arts?
I've been enjoying and playing music my entire life. My mother is a music teacher (piano and saxophone) and I started playing piano when I was about five and trumpet in the 4th grade. There was always music playing in our house growing up and I've been a musician in all sorts of groups throughout my life (choirs, jazz bands, orchestras, chamber groups, wind ensembles, pit orchestras, etc.).
Is there an organization that you are particularly engaged with? What is your role or your interest in this/these organization/s?I'm currently both a board member and trumpet player in the Redwood Symphony. This is the first orchestra I've been "behind the scenes" at, and it has helped me understand what it takes to run, grow, and thrive as a small community orchestra.
What led you to donate to ACSO?
As a board member of Redwood Symphony, I've seen just how stretched the resources are at local orchestras, and ACSO has been a huge help in providing information and a community for support. As an orchestra run almost entirely by volunteers, it is invaluable to have a central organization we can turn to for quick answers and resources.
