THE YELLOW RIVER CANTATA, composed by Xian Xinghai (1939). 

Conductor: Jun Wang.  

Composer Xian Xinghai blended Western classical music forms (such as cantata and symphony) with traditional Chinese folk melodies and instruments (including pipa and sanxian.) The Yellow River Cantata was inspired by Guang Weiran’s patriotic poem entitled “Yellow River” which was also adapted as the work’s lyrics. The result is a unique fusion that captures both the grandeur of China's "Mother River" and the emotional depth of the Chinese people's struggle.
